ABOUT AL-QASIM ACADEMY
“ Throughout my journey as an Imam, I have encountered a variety of life experiences which made me pause and reflect. One such instance, I recall a family that was heavily involved in the masjid. Their son, who was a Hafiz and a product of the masjid Hifz program, had been struggling internally with his faith. I had found out that he was active on Ex-Muslim forums. His hatred for his parents, Islam , and his identity as a Muslim was prevalent in his posts. At that moment, I understood Allah’s statement,
‘ يضل به كثيرا ويهدي به كثيرا ’
This book, as much as it could be a source of guidance for many, will unfortunately mislead many as well. To see someone who has the Quran in his heart, but is detached from Allah made me wonder about our approach to how we make our children memorize the Quran. Is repetition alone enough?
At Al-Qasim Academy, our focus will be to produce high quality Huffaz, while empowering them with the language so that they can truly connect with the book of Allah.
Many conflicted parents approach me with the concern that the average time it takes to memorize the Quran is lengthy (3-4 years). The challenge of having to pull ones child out of school for 3-4 years is a difficult decision for any parent. With the help of Allah, our 10 month intensive Arabic Hifz program [consisting of 10 chapters focusing in depth on the Sciences of Arabic Nahw and Sarf (Syntax and Morphology) along with chapter vocabulary covering approximately 80 % of the terms of the Quran] aims to resolve this concern. With the programs strong emphasis on the arabic language, we prepare our future Huffaz with the necessary knowledge and skills they need, to not only memorize the Quran more effectively but also understand it as they progress.
With the Grace of Allah, I had began testing the program on private hifz students of mine ranging in age from 9-14. After monitoring them and assessing their progress with regular examinations, I was pleased to see their interest in the Arabic language growing and how they were able to grasp the concepts of grammar and use it to decipher Arabic phrases. With the help of Allah, I am confident that we can begin this program on a larger scale to benefit the larger community for future generations to come.”
